Like, the spear-throwing thing *seems* clever, until you consider that maybe there aren’t so much “spear-throwing genes” as there are genes for things like dexterity and intelligence, which are pretty generally useful

Do you have any evidence that there are environments where dumber organisms perform better, or that intelligence trades off against any other useful trait? Like, what it actually trades off against is energy conservation, which is a thoroughly solved problem
