If wealth inequality is equivalent to poverty, anything that hurts wealthy shareholders disproportionately by definition reduces poverty. The funds could be earmarked for being thrown into a bonfire. If we want to make wise tradeoffs, we have to acknowledge that tradeoffs exist
Agreed. Arguably why the head tax failed: Policymakers didn’t buy that it was a good tradeoff, even with the revenue going directly to a form of poverty reduction.
