This is something I learned to do when I lived in England, and it’s served me very well.

Watching UK debates (e.g. Thatcher PMQs) helps. Since both sides share the accent, the content takes its rightful place as the focus of the listener’s attention. Incidentally, I like to use a thick Texas accent when saying technical things like “The Tokamak reactor is online.”
