Accidentally revealing post. Worth a read to better understand the pro-internet-harassment-against-Bad-People (as long as it isn't, like, an explicit rape or death threat) stance that's pretty common among people recently very concerned about GamerGatehttps://anildash.com/2018/09/13/the-price-of-relevance-is-fluency/amp/?__twitter_impression=true …

I'm a little confused - I don't see anything in Dash's post about endorsing harassment.

There’s nothing to be confused about; Jesse is lying and misrepresenting the post, in characteristic fashion.

"You see, there is no "Twitter mob", there's only people." There's no instance in which during a mass online shaming people act in mob-lite manner?

You also act like the only targets of online mobs are super famous, generally unsympathetic people like CEOs. An adult performer killed herself in part b/c of an online mob. A Steven Universe fan artist ended up hospitalized and suicidal. You're too glib about this by a mile.

Those are different contexts than the one I was speaking about, as was when I was targeted by gamergate. Which you know, but are playing dumb about, because you have a narrative you want to construct. I’m not interested in indulging you.

If you're going to write "there is no 'Twitter mob', there's only people" to prop up the argument that "powerful people" just don't want to "have to do work that they didn't want to do," you kinda have to admit that you're *really* understating how vicious these events can be.

Like, if your feedback box at work was stuffed to the gills with "KILL URSELF" messages, your complaints about the feedback situation just might not be entirely about avoiding more work

Again, it's not Anil's fault that Singal uses the phrase "Twitter mob" to mean both "a group of people mad on the internet" and "a sustained campaign of harassment and pressure to commit suicide."https://twitter.com/jessesingal/status/920496980400406529 …
