I think it's a genuine possibility that human beings will solve some of our worst, seemingly-intractable cooperation problems as a result of modifying ourselves away from our species baseline on tribalism/aggression

True, down to the most basic goods that account for decent nutrition. An expensive genetic modification that could raise IQ by 12 points would be sufficient to create class panic, but *a supply of iodine* does exactly that(!), & the answer isn't to deny iodine to everyone equally

We only have to find the genetic mechanisms of empathy and raise them a couple of levels more to create altruistic humans, only when we feel the pain of others we can stop causing it.
