People often read this as a deliberate conspiracy, but part of the tragedy of it is its nature as a product of unanticipated consequences and silent costs of the “do something!” mentality among essentially absent and ignorant decision makers/voters.

It follows that kids in this type of school will become adults that want that police stathe for the reassuring sense of safety it provides—and they'll vote for it. A weird twist given the people who want *more* guns in schools.

Love it or hate it, what’s normal isn’t jarring, and it doesn’t draw as much attention as the novel or unusual. We don’t get to consciously shape our own “normal,” and we have a limited ability to assess it from the inside

Not sure. Ask russians or chineses if they think it is acceptable they seem even good at bypassing it a situation where we play pretend is + dangerous We pretend there is no surveillance state, we have free press etc. W/ censorship is official u r + likely to protect urself

however, it does increase criminality like suggested in the book which make sense surveillance turn individual into potential suspects so when you are a suspect already the border is more easily blurred toward actions what would have been otherwise unacceptable

Fun fact: When I taught--the only one who didn't have internet: Me. "Miss, you can use my hot spot." Every kid has a VPN. Kid's are smarter than adults. RE: Police: Every officer you hire is a teacher or coach you didn't. SROs come out of school budget.
