Everything about this is horrible. Though it doesn't strike me as a case of too much discipline, rather not enough. Every authority figure in this poor kids life, at least as far as one can gleam from the information provided, kicked the can to some higher, impersonal authority.

But generally, how can a six-year even be prosecuted in a criminal case? I have lost all sympathy and understanding for the US legal system over the years. Honestly it‘s largely absurd and unworthy of a developed nation.

People are trying to integrate schoolish values with the general values of society. They're failing and making a mess. But the older way of handling this was also very irrational and immoral—but invisible, so would cause no outrage and there'd be no judge to dismiss the case.

I’ve been thinking of it as a community → institutions/systems shift, where the failure mode of the former is widespread local toxicity/injustice & the failure mode of the latter is desocialization/breakdown of basic social animal functioning
