I'm fond of the depressing but accurate term "IQ shredder."

Oof. This hurts my soul.

They all just sit around hating God and worshipping Elon Musk instead, while delaying family formation until its too late. But at least they can take their Teslas in for repairs every Saturday.

Hence lowest % of children of any U.S. city (13%): https://www.sfgate.com/mommyfiles/article/Many-families-leave-San-Francisco-but-what-about-10887001.php … Folks need to read Byran Caplan's "Selfish Reasons to Have More Kids": https://www.amazon.com/Selfish-Reasons-Have-More-Kids/dp/0465028616 … I live in Sonoma. Family life is fun. My Brother-In-Law lives in SV, full-time nanny, kids are stressed.

Sonoma is awesome! I went to Prestwood elementary school many, many, many years ago! Lovely town.

it's not just affecting pre-natal families, but also existing families. i had to turn down a very nice software eng manager offer at a california company because the increase in salary they offered wasn't enough to cover housing for my large family (six kids).
-
Yeah. The “very nice salaries” here do not cover the cost of living an equivalent life nearly everywhere else. Most of us pay to stay here, through indirect, hidden costs we don’t know about for a decade or so. Honestly feels like a shitty mortgage contract sometimes.
