So true. Also there are gains to be made by believing in people beyond venture capital too. Everyone, not just VCs, could benefit from that attitude.

The term 'knowledge' is used for two very different things *in ordinary usage*. In short: (1) true, justified belief; and (2) useful information. Ordinary usage is therefore fatally confused. And the remedy is to realise, with Popper, that (1) is plain wrong on all three counts.

In the original context the word "believe" accurately conveys the intended meaning. The word "know" does not. Hence I will continue to "believe in people" not "know in people".

He's not being pedantic: the concept of "belief" contains justificationist baggage and mistakes. Reason is necessary for progress, belief isn't. Knowledge isn't about believers it's about reasoners.
