One subtle problem with standardized tests is that they need sufficiently "hard" questions to produce results on a bell curve, and chasing this tail may cause a descent into pure trivia. This is how "emollient" & "adumbrate" end up on the SAT, where they can make & break futures.

The problem is that too many people don't develop a 'future they'd love' in their minds, not that society doesn't allow them to have it. (I mean things they'd love doing/thinking/creating, not a status they think they'd love, of course.)
When I was six, there were dozens of futures I'd have loved, and it's interesting to reflect on which of those were silly (but fun!) and which were remarkably realistic quashed by roadblocks & [now pretty apparently false] assumptions about my own ability

One of the saddest aspects of our society is that when teachers/parents/etc. tell young people they are not good enough, that they should drop their projects and focus on their next test we all stand by in silent agreement rather than strongly affirm that isn't true.
