Interesting phenomenon: I often hear the concern that most kids can't cut it in an environment that makes space for intensive, self-directed projects; that's a "smart kid" thing. And the assumption seems to be that the "smart kids" are the ones who do well w/ "memorize & test."
If there were some opportunity to sit with "God" on this & take an above-the-clouds view, I think we'd see a very messy set of relationships between test success, "smart" as culturally defined, IQ, "creativity" & the currently horrifically underrated *ability to generate novelty*
A very underrated characteristic is when presented with something to ponder what has been presented. Far too often people feel compelled to “do” vs think.
And also actually having the motivation and focus to follow through with self-directed projects with no external pressure to keep you going
My big complaint on schools is they teach kids that naturally test well to be lazy and kids that don’t that learning is memorization. Nobody is served by them.
