Is there a meaningful distinction between doing something fun and doing something meaningful?

It's easy for people to talk past one another when they argue about concepts like "fun" and "meaningful" — for example, I can talk about "a meaningful life" as an ongoing, stable subjective experience of meaningfulness, or as a portfolio of impact on the external world

You can have a "meaningful" external impact without having fun, but a playful approach to anything is an extremely powerful force multiplier. "Fun" doesn't exist in a vacuum, play = evolved behaviors that seem to confer survival benefits by facilitating extremely fast learning
