Education is the silver bullet. Education quality is driven by teacher quality. We pay teachers ½ or ¼ of what we pay other critical professionals. Lots of potentially great teachers decide they'll be happier elsewhere. I don't see how you solve that without spending more money.

Receiving a median salary means that half of all the jobs in the country are more valuable—and (intangibles aside) more attractive—than yours. I wouldn't rank the value of teachers anywhere near that low.
