An overt "you belong here" (~ "demo") can help people who are not sure they do. It can make those used to being the default uncomfy since they fear wrongdoing is implied.

Agree on (2) and (3). I've heard this on (1) that made me think: That's it's close to "not only do I feel crap for being treated unequally to my detriment, but I should now help you & make you comfortable so you have the space to grow. (F off.)" I can see how that'd be hard?
