Both theories (and the parody "CAD" too) take for granted that your being subject to a stream of commands is an immutable fact of nature.
It’s just way easier for people to grasp “reform this system” than “understand this system starting from first principles & then decide to what extent and in which ways to interact with it.” Wanting a better autopilot is maybe OK, if you understand that that’s what it is?

I was trying to address it pretty generically, because I was thinking simultaneously of (a) ultra-hierarchical institutions like most schools/workplaces & (b) systems like the mental health infrastructure that use the ability to function within (a) for goalposts

The autopilot is an interesting analogy here. I'd like to think that one should never be on autopilot when dealing with institutions. But then why does it make sense to trust the autopilot in an airplane ...
