Out of curiosity do you think it does more harm to a child to be told they are bad for "arguing with adults/actively defying rules" or if they are instead told they have a disorder and they should take medication for it?

Not precisely? IMO the core feature of an avoidant personality is rejection sensitivity, which is probably sufficient but in no way necessary to output these behaviors
