It's hard for something to be novel if it is easily stumbled upon. All novelty has this property that you get there after doing something few other people would - for several times in a row.
Insofar as I ever say anything that seems insightful + kinda novel, odds are good I came up with it by fucking up royally in some fashion most people would have avoided at least eight steps back in the chain
