This is generally not true if you’re not making progress ... The fun/flow results from the repeated small but meaningful moments of accomplishment/learning. You’re not describing something “hard” imo.

A trivial example I mean by frustrating or hard would be a crossword puzzle that takes you say 50 hours to solve each of 100 clues. (Each solve is a burst of “insight”). This is a decent analogy for scientific discovery imo.
