Okay, internet friends, acquaintances, and enemies. I am at a personal impasse. I don’t know how to do this. How do I fund in a way that allows the people who work on it to have a good salary & health insurance? Assume we’re all US residents. My DMs are open.

So here's a little story of the time taught me how impossible it is for professional women to get the respect they deserve:

What just happened with actix is a perfect example of the idea that not all software is made for you. Don't like the level of unsafe?Don't like how issues are triaged? Fine, don't use the project. That doesn't mean you should harass the maintainer and bandwagon issues in Reddit.

Still looking for alpha testers for frauth! It's a CLI tool to help verify identities, and in the future make it easy to sign, verify, encrypt, and decrypt files + messages! Having more users will help me build the discovery features as well! Read more:

How can we help a nebulous, undefined user group of "everyone" if we won't talk about a *specific* user group and their technical and cultural context? We have to talk about disabled people. We have to talk about ableism. (3/3)

A few weeks ago, I left MongoDB due to their business relationship with ICE. It was particularly frustrating as I loved my job and got to work with some amazing people. 1/5

Every position we open at Basecamp receives hundreds of applications. Our secret recipe: 1) Pay well, 2) Hire remotely, 3) Explain the position thoroughly, 4) Have a reputation for being a good place to work, 5) Stop dog whistling overwork with “strong work-ethic” bullshit.

Gall’s Law: “A complex system that works is invariably found to have evolved from a simple system that worked. A complex system designed from scratch never works and cannot be patched up to make it work. You have to start over with a working simple system.” (Via )

I disagree with Bob, yet again. Furthermore, when you read code, the race, religion, politics, gender, and orientation of the reader are factors that influence the reader’s interpretation.

What the Nobel Prize fails to mention here, and fails to mention every year, is that both Burnell and Hulse were 24 year old grad students when they made their discoveries. Hulse is a man, so he got the prize. But Burnell is a woman, so the prize was given to her supervisor.

I'm sorry, but I am not remotely impressed by academics working 100 hours/week. First of all, you cannot tell me that you maintain the same productivity for 100 hours as you could for 40-50. And you are setting a horrible example for junior scholars in terms of self-exploitation.
