Days like this remind me that we need to overhaul how we approach analyzing TCs. Objectivity, traceability, & quantifiable measures of uncertainty based on time-dependent storm & observing platform characteristics need to be pts of emphasis in future work & hurricane reanalyses

It's a daunting task that would take a huge, concerted effort over many years to accomplish, but the fruits of such labor would be worth it. One way this more robust framework could be conceived is via intensive machine learning &/or artificial intelligence (e.g. neural networks)

Fwiw, neural networks are already being applied in real time at NCAR to assess/predict SPC forecast hazards.
