    On January 1-12, 1864 severe Arctic cold persisted in Arkansas. From what records exist during this time in the Civil War, it appears the coldest readings were on the 1st with -16 at Fayetteville, Little Rock & Van Buren. On the 2nd the Arkansas River was frozen over.

    Owensboro, KY F3 Tornado – January 3, 2000! 7 mile track to the northeast from Rome through . 1200 homes/businesses had varying degrees of damage. 100+ of those destroyed. Numerous cars tossed. 18 injuries and no fatalities.

    I was just remarking to myself that it's hard to believe it's already 2019, and then I remembered that today marks the 20th anniversary of the Blizzard of '99 in northern Illinois, where, at the time, I was in second grade in Geneva.

    This map shows the range of "feels like" temperature for 2018 using ASOS automated stations. It takes the hottest heat index temperature and subtracts the coldest wind chill temperature.

    Interesting stat: 2018 is the first year since 2006 with zero tornado deaths in Oklahoma. The streak from 2007 through 2017 with at least 1 death each year was the longest on record.

    Today the high temperature is approaching record high, however, in 1894, the high and low temperatures both were record cold! Also, the average temperature was only 46ºF, making this date the coldest ever in Key West history! Brrr!
