It's not clear what's significant about the distribution of vulnerability severity in 2017. If anything, the percent of "high" severity vulnerabilities seems to be lower in 2017 than most other years at a glance. Am I missing something?
Looking at internal distribution within the year is one aspect. Looking at the fact that reported vulns suddenly doubled in a year - including high severity vulns - seems significant to me. I'm not saying it's good or bad, but that big a spike is interesting.
