The dev's reaction was patronizing but he made valid points. Windows UX is at fault here, not Rufus.
A proper update mechanism would not display any Authenticode dialog to the user. That sort of thing is not a decision for the user to make.
Fair point but there's something to be said about not building on top of bad decisions and fixing the underlying problems.
But overall I agree, there's no benefit in asking the user what to do there. A fix could be found without needing https though.
Sure, it's possible. But a lot more to think about and not screw up. HTTPS isn't without flaws, but it sure helps prevent badness.
