With folks talking about UNC links and Zoom, I had to dig a little bit. I've noticed an odd behavior (to me) with respect to opening programs on an anonymous remote server. Windows 7 will prompt before running such a program. Windows 8/10 will NOT!pic.twitter.com/KtsjXTQfec

Could have something to do with smart screen. Just a wild guess.

Guess would go something like this: win 7 uses a very blunt protection mechanism of warning when running code from suspect source. Win 10 maybe able to be a bit more selective about when it warns based on classification of exe.

Honestly, I'm kinda not super-surprised. With some things I've done I've sometimes noted legacy pop-up warnings related to file execution not seeming to function as they should on Win10.

Could it be that Windows 8/10 assumes that the anonymous check will happen in transit, while 7 flags everything because it doesnt know? Or is there a difference in roles? I assume both examples are being run as user, correct?

This appears to be a huge oversight on Windows 8.x and Windows 10 part because if you think about the DOD Model of the OSI Model then the proper response is always to fall closed as compared to falling open.
