The amount of hysterical, either out-of-context or plainly inaccurate coverage that's going around in major tech journalism outlets about this Samsung fingerprint stuff is really quite impressive. Even reletive to usual standards.

So the quote that @SamsungMobile is "aware of the case of S10's malfunctioning fingerprint recognition and will soon issue a software patch", which has by now made it to @BBCNews @arstechnica @Forbes and more, has not been confirmed?

I'm sure there's an issue, in that no matter what sort of screen protector/case you have on the device when you register a print it shouldn't allow arbitrary unlock. But there's as yet no indication this is could be a reliably exploitable thing in the real world.

Here's the official Samsung statement: https://news.samsung.com/global/statement-on-fingerprint-recognition-issue … "If you currently use front screen protective covers, to ensure optimum fingerprint scanning, please refrain from using this cover until your device has been updated with a new software patch."
