I recently learned that BMW charges its owners $80 a year for the privilege of using Apple CarPlay in their vehicles. Android Auto isn't supported at all. What sort of customers buy into this nonsense?
The difference is that with Sirius, you're paying for the continued use of the satellites circling the globe. But with Apple CarPlay, BMW wants you to continue paying for a feature built into the head unit of the car you've purchased. No other car maker has stooped to this.

Same business model. Car ships with feature X. Feature X is available free for Y days. If customer likes feature X they pay up. If people weren't willing to pay for it then company wouldn't do it. I don't blame BMW for exploiting a market opportunity.
