In an enterprise (not grandma and granddad's computer), a preventative technique that doesn't (and is not designed to) log blocked attempts is worth implementing.

Prime example: Mandatory ASLR. It will thwart some exploit attempts, but you won't know when/why. I've found it quite difficult to convince IT the benefit of such things. They much prefer a pop-up explaining how their security product just saved them from http://bloodhound.w32.foo
