Oh, Microsoft's Enhanced Mitigation Toolkit was killed off two weeks ago. MS says use Win10 instead, but previous research by @wdormann of CERT/CC shows 13 extra defences when EMET is coupled with Win10. https://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/11/24/cert_no_microsoft_even_win_7_emet_is_better_than_solo_win_10/ …pic.twitter.com/z71xiPo5O9

The CERT/CC post is a bit out of date at this point, check out Windows Defender Exploit Guard (WDEG) which is built in to Windows 10:https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/srd/2017/08/09/moving-beyond-emet-ii-windows-defender-exploit-guard/ …

Yeah, I was planning on doing a follow-up blog post about it, but that got sidelined when I realized that manually importing the default EMET protection profile (using the PowerShell utils) would result in a Windows 10 BSOD on the next boot. Has that been addressed?

The goal of the updated blog post was to provide a seamless migration path from folks already leveraging EMET. But I definitely didn't want to be suggesting something that resulted in a non-booting Windows system!

I've confirmed this with a current build. Thanks. I'll draft up a blog post and update the old one.

It looks like if you have any build earlier than 1803 (RS4), you'll get this BSOD if you import EMET mitigation settings. It's probably OK for me to blog about the topic, but I'll have to be VERY clear that users risk trouble with older Windows 10 builds.pic.twitter.com/1ld472jLKU

Did you test this on a fully patched RS3 machine? We serviced the issue on RS3 so I would not expect to see the bugcheck

I'll check that. My VM snapshots are just default states, so RS updates as they're released. Do you have a date on the RS3 issue fix? Based on my timestamps, I'd say it was probably sometime in the past 3 months.
