Which leads me to wonder: Does the concept of "Task-specific Programming Languages" actually pre-date "Domain-specific Languages"? Can anyone find a reference to DSLs that is earlier than 1993? (2/2)
The term "DSL" dates to at least 1977 ("Structured Debugging Using a Domain Specific Language"), but was popularized mid-90s by Paul Hudak (eg "Building domain-specific embedded languages", 1996) who was drawing on Jon Bentley's "Little Languages" (1986).
