Is there an equivalent of Amdahl's law but for HCI? Like, the overall efficacy of an improvement for a user is bounded by the frequency with which the improvement is applicable.

My point is more so about context than modeling a given task. Take Fitts' law - using it, we can design an optimal system for reducing pointing time. But if pointing is only 2% of a user's actions, then by Amdahl's law, we can only save the user a maximum of 2% of their time.

Not everything is always so cleanly decomposable. If a particular tool makes a strategy easier, maybe a developer would choose to do it more and learn something new, making another task easier. Joel Brandt's Blueprint tool started to explore that line of thinking.
