This reminds me of back in undergrad... I loved when professors would just wing-it in lecture because it helped me “see the ceiling”, i.e. get a since for how much further I had to climb in order to make it to the top. It was comforting to see that it really wasn’t that far off.
Except Frank Pfenning, who managed to do an entire semester of compilers lectures from memory. Some ceilings are unreachable.
Wait... what? So no lecture notes/slides. Just from the top of his head?
Heh, he did have notes on the course website which I assume he prepared from. But IIRC most lectures he just drew on the whiteboard for 80 mins without checking any notes.
