Of my close friends from undergrad CS, I think basically all of them went to FAANG SWE jobs, became disaffected, and left or gave up. Seems like the main options are 1) non-profit 2) startup (good luck getting VC funding lmao) or 3) research.
You really could do a CS PhD if you wanted!! I know dozens of former SWEs. Pick literally any field but AI/ML and you’re golden. You just have to deal with shit pay and the reality that having impact is 10x harder than industry
