I've never thought about academic research being so metric driven.

In research you have to justify why your contribution matters, and metrics are a common/easy method. But DX research can be hard to quantitatively evaluate bc of the human factors.
- participants must be skilled, and variation in background is huge - usability changes as participants better learn a tool - some effects only emerge over a long time scale + in a large ecosystem
