stupid question: if I want to run some experiments on a beefy dedicated machine that I can ssh into and install stuff on, can I rent / buy that from AWS? I want to benchmark something for a paper but don't have a machine that's as large as I'd like.
important caveat: cloud perf can be inconsistent since you're virtualized onto a shared physical machine -- this will impact disk/cache speeds (see: https://dl.acm.org/doi/pdf/10.1145/1730836.1730842 …) so you'll probably want to get repeat measurements

right, so that's why I said "dedicated" in the original tweet, contrasted to shared neighbors

ah ok, you'll just have to pay for the *really* beefy nodes then -- e.g. GCE has a minimum 60 nodes for $2.7/hr with sole-tenancy
