Seeing some anger about cancelling "free speech"/anti-BLM dudes (Uhlig) and policing sensitive language (USENIX banning "blacklist"). I really don't get it. We have to stop making false equivalence between stopping racism and promoting racism as both just "free speech".

It's simple: black people are advocating to not be oppressed. White supremacists are advocating to oppress. These are not the same. Under 1A, we shouldn't throw either in jail for their speech. But we SHOULD ABSOLUTELY *ostracize* white supremacist people, viewpoints, language.

Just read the Uhlig piece. https://bit.ly/3cN0L97 Journos only defend anti-racism protests b/c they hate Trump? wtf? We should support Colin Kaepernick because his cause is fundamentally just.

People criticize actions like this as "how can you be inclusive by excluding someone?" That's a stupidly reductive argument. B/c the person you're excluding was previously abetting the exclusion of POC.https://twitter.com/auffhammer/status/1271580039109210113 …
