      Also, maybe emotional tone of feedback loop matters most? I've developed the skill of seeing cold compiler errors as helpful, but harder for beginners Maybe friendlier compiler messages as in Elm can make compiler failures feel "closer to working" for beginners too? @czaplic

      Been working on an "Auto TA" to help novices understand/debug error messages in R (https://github.com/willcrichton/r-autota …). Emotional empathy is definitely challenging. I personally see a "friendly" interface as "more text I have to read", but some people really appreciate/need it.

      Wow, so cool! Esp like the search query w/ explanation I wonder if reframing from "errors" to something like "next todo" would be helpful.. error implies a "failure" to reach perfection on first try, but I think experts see it as natural part of iterating towards completion

      Reminds me of something from Mindstorms... powerful moment when students realize teacher actually doesn't know why a bug is happening, and they can genuinely debug together as a normal part of the creative process
