CSS: given <p /> and many rules ... p { color: _ }, which color do you apply? OOP: given obj.method() in a multiple inheritance chain, which impl does method refer to? PL: given a var x and many bindings to x, which bindings does x correspond to? All the same core problem!
Build a stack of scopes (specificity-ordered CSS rules, C3-linearized inheritance graph, lexically-scoped variable bindings), then walk the stack to find first instance of desired identifier (color, method, x). Always thought this neat connection was underappreciated.
