i maintain there is no such thing as african "traditional" "religions" as "religion" is a european way of knowing and "traditional" is always in flux.

on the west side of the atlantic , the ways of knowing of Yoruba exist as "religion". but to us, the Yoruba, they are just existence. it's just how we dey and how we dey know. initiate or not, as far as you are alive, the truths of Yoruba realities exist in you.

was speaking to someone about this in terms of (african) spiritualities, how we are rooted in (our own) truth (versus in "their" facts) and how oral history is so important to this rootedness coz it accommodates for change and for the (new) truths which drive the specific society
