May seem sublime, but isn't the fire danger from tens of thousands of home generators higher than a fleet of UAVs to monitor power lines at risk ? (keeping the power on) a few billion$ can buy a lot of tech

PG&E doesn't have to pay for fires started by home generators. Therefore, it's cheaper for PG&E to let other people start the fires by accident instead of starting them with their own shoddy equipment.

This is so ridiculous, Merritt college is in the hills and is one of the least accessible places in Oakland.

That's by design. They don't want the "peasants" on Campus Drive and streets adjacent. So, those chargers are for people who live up there.
