This happens when you run around with a "anything can be undone in git" mindset. Reminds me of the dark times before I knew what version control was.

My hazy memory seems to recall using TextEdit to recover a source file that I’d been working with in Xcode that got overwritten by an erroneous checkout, but I could be mistaken.
