Cocoapods tend to make things more complicated, not less... Why not adding the necessary libs as git submodules? And add a normal link to the Xcode project... I went for that option in a iOS SDK I made...

This. I don’t understand what others find so complicated on this approach that they are willing to use Cocoapods or Carthage.
