I keep thinking about this idea the C++ committee brought up on their panel: Don't try to make complex concepts simple.

One of my first languages was Haskell, and I saw the effort to try to make a complex concept look simple too often in that community.

"Look, it's only 2 lines of code!" Maybe it shouldn't be 2 lines of code. Maybe it'd be MUCH easier to understand & debug if it was longer.

Graphics APIs too. Vulkan is verbose, but it does not hide things from you & you can better understand how the GPU is programmed as a result

I feel this way about high level languages/tools. Yes, looks easy to use. But they can also hide so much & makes things much more difficult

This is why I advocate for C++, even as a beginner tool, and this is why like using C++ & low level languages.

Do you have a resource you recommend to people starting on C++? I only find books explaining the new features of C++-N

I don’t see this one recommended enough. Very modern, but very clear and gentle: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0134383583/ref=pd_aw_sim_14_of_19?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=2J7QP5AXS04Y7YQFEVCW …

I second that book, out of all of intro books it feels like it hits the sweet spot on details and explanation. It is pedantic but gently so.
