Question: Does Metal back SceneKit? I can run SceneKit code in the simulator, so I assume not. Is it OpenGL backed??

I assume so because I know SceneKit lets you use Metal for renderings.

It can do either. Always GL in Sim. Shaders get cross-compiled to MSL if necessary.
