Love the Metal API but OpenGL ES still performs quite a bit better in my use cases. Somewhat disappointing.

nah, I think low draw calls with same objects being called w/ different shaders in one frame works better with GL.
Obviously every case is different; would be happy to work with you to see if we can approach performance parity.
