@warrenm “Works on the compo machine” :D (But Mac at a small party means it’ll probably need to run on my own laptop… ouch!)
@_psonice Gotcha. Any specific hang-ups with Metal on Intel, or just generally non-performant?

@mhorga_
@warrenm The intel chips are decent enough, it’s just that they’re a lot slower than nvidia/AMD’s dedicated parts. -
@mhorga_
@warrenm Tracing / ray marching push the GPU very hard, so it really starts to show the limitations there. -

@mhorga_
@_psonice Proper algorithm design will always beat throwing more silicon at the problem. -
-
@mhorga_
@warrenm absolutely. But more silicon means I can throw more properly designed (OK, hacked up) algorithms on screen :D -
@_psonice Naturally! That wasn’t meant to be a dig at you; just general commentary

@warrenm complex ray marching / distance fields, 1080p target, intel GPU… 1fps? :D Put that down as non-performant. -
@_psonice Noted. -
@warrenm (Performance issues are down to the GPU just not being fast enough for this btw, not Metal, it really needs a decent discrete GPU)

and it still works just fine! true, I haven’t run galaxy collision on it just yet.
