func add(a:Int)->Int->Int A function that takes a Int and returns a function that takes an Int and returns an Int. Did I just have a stroke?

@edelaney05 I assume this is mostly tongue-in-cheek, and you understand currying and partial application. http://www.uncarved.com/blog/not_currying.mrk …

@warrenm Yeah, read about it in the Functional Swift book. TBH, it’s making my head spin.

@warrenm this sounds both threatening and ominous as well as encouraging and “get back out there, sport.”

@edelaney05 FP is great because it upsets sclerotic thinking. Understanding the “why” and not merely the “what” pays enormous dividends.

@warrenm Have you read the Swift FP book? Will I get the “why?” Where else can I look for the why? I like I’m missing key resources.

@edelaney05 Yeah, I found it pretty gentle. I hesitate to recommend SICP, but it’s worth the study if you have the time for it.

.@edelaney05 Unrelatedly, the greatest sclerosis of the object-oriented mind is a blindness to the pathologies of statefulness.

@warrenm wha? It feels like 99% of the bugs I fight in OOP are state related. Seems like statefulness is unavoidable -more about mitigation?

@edelaney05 It’s undesirable to slavishly avoid state. The problem is underestimating the combinatorial explosion of possible interactions.
