Writing some OpenGL code for the first time a little while. Man this API sucks so bad compared to Metal, DX11 and Mantle. It’s offensive.

@jfroy @warrenm So when does Metal get moved over to OS X?

@Fudmottin @jfroy I’d be surprised if it wasn’t in the next major release, but that’s pure speculation.

@warrenm @Fudmottin I’d be surprised if it ever makes it. Apple has few engineering resources on Mac graphics. Just look how bad GL is.

@warrenm @Fudmottin They certainly don’t have the driver manpower for all vendors. Maybe their in-house Intel driver could add support.

@jfroy @warrenm Apple builds their own hardware and choses their vendors. They also have lots of cash to hire more graphics people.

@Fudmottin @warrenm There aren’t more graphics people to hire. Believe me all the good ones are working on mobile or desktop Windows, Linux.

@jfroy @warrenm I see no reason not to do in house training. Hire good math people who can program and teach them!

@Fudmottin @warrenm It’s more about hardware / GPU design, system programming than math at the driver level.

@jfroy @warrenm Apple designs it's own ARM processors. The future of laptops is likely to be ARM for the low end. Time to cooperate?

@Fudmottin @warrenm Apple doesn’t design its GPUs, Imagination does that. The driver people at Apple experts in their designs though.

@warrenm @Fudmottin And then they’d also have to scale Metal up the capabilities of desktop GPUs, which would not at all be trivial.

@warrenm @Fudmottin I just don’t see it happening. I’m rather hoping Apple gives up on GL entirely and lets OEMs provide the implementation.

@jfroy @warrenm Seymour Cray was criticized about his computers not having few primitive operations. His response was that they were fast.
