One thing I noticed is that exporting a SceneKit scene to a USDZ file fails silently on iOS 12 beta 1, despite the docs claiming it should work. If it did work, one could import a glTF asset with a framework like GLTFSCN, then save back out to USDZ in ~10 lines of code.
