While I have you on the line, though: can you characterize the overhead of generating a command encoder for every encoded kernel? Why not take an encoder instead of a command buffer?
Compute encoders are cheap. They do not have a mountain of state attachéd to them like render encoders do. In addition, the driver can fuse them so you don’t take a hardware kick cost. The design allows us to avoid having to define which binding ids are volatile.
