seriously though - your commits are still distributed all over the place, is the fuss over MS owning the social aspect (PRs with animated gifs)? or github issues? or the storage? for me it was a place to store commits for free. still will be, right?

It was an emotional reaction more than anything. I don’t anticipate much changing from a user perspective. It’s still a good place to host code and collaborate.

No one noticed that even Microsoft publishes their own opensource projects via github? All of the D3D12 material and the new shader compiler (DXIL) is on github - at least for the last 3 years.
